BREAKFAST AT FOODBANK
Matilda Riiali Exchange student from Finland.Foodbank has a well deserved reputation for being there for people experiencing financial hardship and ensuring there will be food on the table.
As we begin a new relationship between City Rotary and Foodbank, we thought members would like to visit Foodbank to see their operations and at the same time have our breakfast meeting there.
Our meeting at Foodbank is part of a two pronged action to support the life-affirming work done by Foodbank to help those in need.
The first action will be a volunteer group to stay on after our breakfast meeting to assist in packing Foodbank food hampers. There are limited volunteer positions available so please indicate when you register for the event if you would like to participate. The volunteering will conclude at approximately 11.30am.
The second action is a food drive to assist Foodbank in stocking their food supplies. Attached is a list of the most needed items. Or if you would prefer to make a cash donation, the Club will collect funds and then present to Foodbank. You can bring your donations on the day.
More details of these two initiative are available in the attached documents.

Mars, here we come!
Leanne Cunnold CEO, AroseLeanne Cunnold
CEO, AROSE
You might not be aware that Western Australia has a thriving space industry and that NASA has asked Australia to provide the lunar rover for its Artemis missions.
Our guest speaker, Leanne Cunnold, is about to tell us about contributions we are making to NASA’s inspirational endeavour to return to the Moon and then go on to Mars. AROSE is part of the Trailblazer Stage 1 consortium which has evolved from our world-leading expertise in remote operations and automation technology developed for our resources industry.
Leanne will share how Australian businesses and researchers have access to international space supply chains and how we are creating local jobs and enabling growth of industries through the development and application of space technologies.
She has over 25 years’ experience in the technology industry with a proven track record of delivering business expansion and navigating organisational and market challenges in both start-up and complex billion-dollar global environments.
It’s sure to be a futuristic breakfast!

Redefining The Great Australian Dream
Michelle Blakeley Architect, Founder & Chair "MyHome"Michelle Blakeley,
Architect
Founder and Chair “My Home”
Once, the Great (White) Australian Dream was believing that home ownership was an expression of success and security in life. For most Australians, it was an attainable foundation of our individual and social wellbeing. Not anymore.
Today’s reality is that not everyone in Australia will be in a financial position to ever own a home, especially with the ever-expanding size of Australian houses and the ever-expanding cost. More and more Australians will continue to rent housing throughout their life.
Where did we go wrong? What is affordable housing? How do we make housing affordable? Michelle explores the need for a new national vision for housing.
Many Rotarians will be familiar with “My Home” and Michelle’s work in delivering housing for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. This session delves into the many learnings of working in the social housing sector for over five years and how this has influenced her design of homes for private clients and the delivering of more affordable homes for Australians generally.
$42 for City Rotary members, $49 for non-members

Mental Health First Aid Workshop Fundraiser
Louise Rabbone Registered PsychologistAbout 1 in 5 Australian adults experience a common mental illness each year. Many people are not knowledgeable or confident to offer assistance. Physical first aid is accepted and widespread in our community, however, does not cover mental health problems.
Mental Health First Aid training was developed by Mental Health FirstAid Australia over 20 years ago in response to this challenge with the initial support of Australia Rotary Health. It is an educational course that arms participants with practical first aid skills to:
Recognise common mental health problems
Provide initial help using a practical, evidence-based Action Plan
Seek appropriate professional help
Respond in crisis situations
The 12-hour Mental Health First Aid course is available to any interested adult and is ideal for individuals who wish to increase their skill set and knowledge in the area of mental health and organisations wanting to ensure their workplace takes a proactive stance in identifying the signs of mental health issues in their workforce and refers those in need to appropriate support avenues.
The facilitator of the workshop is City Rotary member Louise Rabbone who is a registered Psychologist and holds a Master of Psychology degree. Louise has facilitated numerous mental health training programs (including over 400 for Beyond Blue) and is a Master MHFA Facilitator.
Completion of the course will result in participants being able to become an accredited Mental Health First Aider for 3 years after completing a basic online assessment.
Rotary Fundraiser – all proceeds of the course to go to City Rotary community support projects.
This course runs over two days on Friday 3 November and Friday 10 November 2023.
