“My Home” - Supporting building new houses for people experiencing homelessness
Our members contributed their professional expertise and networking connections to build the capacity and enable the sustainability of “My Home”, a philanthropic housing developer delivering affordable, energy efficient, architecturally designed homes for people experiencing homelessness, based on Housing First principles.
Our Successes
- Assisting in the delivery and fit-out, of furniture and household items for the first “My Home” houses in North Fremantle (completed) and McKail, Albany (completed), Mandurah (in planning stage).
- Helping to secure major philanthropic funding of $1 million for the “My Home” Carlisle development.

City Rotary’s contributions included
- The role of Secretary for the “My Home” Board; recruitment of key leaders in the property, homeless support services and finance sectors to the Board; and providing governance and guidance for policy development, property development, risk management and strategic planning.
- Facilitating the acquisition of funding.
- Active participation in the Rotary WA initiative to provide furnishings and homewares for “My Home” houses.
- Wide ranging pro bono support from City Rotary corporate member, Highbury Homes, builder for the North Fremantle project.
- Initiation and leadership of City Rotary’s Emplace Initiative, which raised awareness of homelessness in the business community and created corporate introductions, support and funding models for “My Home”.

“My Home” sources land, government and philanthropic funding and pro bono contributions using a public and private sector partnership (PPP) model. It works with a Community Housing Provider that is responsible for the ongoing property and tenant management.
