Powering the Future: Will batteries or hydrogen prevail?

March 15, 2023 @ 7:00 am - 8:30 am

Free – $49.00
Dr Terry Humphries, Curtin University

Global climate change is currently impacting everyone. To reduce the impact, many countries are turning to renewable energies to remove fossil fuels from the energy menu. While electricity can be generated from many sources including solar and wind, storing this energy is a problem. Two options being actively explored include electrochemical batteries and hydrogen. Both have their pros and cons for various applications, but the transport market is a formidable contest.

Dr Terry Humphries has been researching hydrogen at leading global universities for over 17 years and believes that hydrogen will be a leading energy storage solution for the future. Batteries have been used to store power for decades but hydrogen is rising to the challenge, fast. The question is, how close is the contest and what are the best ways of using both technologies?

Electric cars are commonplace on the roads, but many companies are now producing hydrogen cars. Australia is actively building charging stations for both technologies and so customers will soon be left with the dilemma of choice.

Terry will provide an overview of hydrogen technologies and explore the playing field of hydrogen and electric vehicles.
